Craniosacral Therapy

CCST promotes pain relief from headaches, neck pain and the side effects of cancer treatment.

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Craniosacral therapy (CST), sometimes called cranial sacral therapy, is a gentle, hands-on, and noninvasive treatment approach. It may help relieve pain such as headaches and neck discomfort, as well as ease certain side effects related to cancer treatment and other conditions. Healthcare providers may recommend CST as a complementary therapy alongside other medical treatments.

How Does Craniosacral Therapy Work?

Craniosacral therapy (CST) works through the gentle placement of a practitioner’s hands to help release tension within the body’s connective tissue, known as fascia (pronounced fash-ee-uh). The term fascia comes from a Latin word meaning “band.” This tissue forms a casing that surrounds and supports structures throughout the body, including your organs, glands, nerves, muscles, blood vessels, brain and spinal cord. Together, fascia creates a connective network that runs throughout the entire body.

Because the human body is interconnected both structurally and functionally, tension in one area can influence other areas. CST aims to reduce this tension — often called fascial clearance — which may help related parts of the body function more effectively.
